This project for a single family home integrates interior and exterior spaces, in a ā€œUā€ shaped plan, surrounding a small garden, which is perceived from every area in the house.

The building code for the area requires the use of a sloping roof covered with terra cotta tile. What seemed as a limitation at first, has been viewed as an opportunity to develop new spatial ideas and forms in the contemporary language of the project.

The space covered by this sloping roof is emphasized in the design, and made highly visible, becoming the most important area in the house, enclosing double and triple height spaces. Custom designed furniture, especially a bookcase / stair that acts as a focal point and integrates the diverse spaces, from the entrance to a third-level studio.

Large windows help to integrate the interior spaces to the garden, and allow for great literal transparency in the house enhancing the sensorial transparency that is achieved by the flowing spatial design.

Skylights and pergolas allow natural sunlight to enter the house in several areas. A balcony in the second level and a pergola covered space in the first, are living exterior spaces, in contact with the garden, the natural elements and a stream that borders the site.

The open garage also is adjacent to the central garden and may also be used and a living exterior space when required, as in parties.

The richness of natural materials, glass, marble and wood, contrasts beautifully with the purity of the white volumes that compose the design.

The house is located in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
