Concept
The concept of this proposal is to spin a metallic platform rolling over a rigid concrete structure. To get the best visual appeal the glass walls rotate together with the platform being visible from outside. The roof can rotate together with the structure depending on the project demands.
Each apartment can rotate individually in both directions with its own control and timing.
The time for one complete turn is according to the needs of the customer. The Suite Vollard completes a turn in one hour.
All mobile parts are under the floor with easy access for inspection and maintenance.
Safety is an absolute priority.
The concept shown in this presentation is about a generic project based in an already validated concept and can be adjusted and further developed to meet the customer’s necessities.
Mechanics
Advantages:
Simplicity
Only concept already built and tested
Low energy consumption
Low cost compared to similar equipments
Low weight
Low maintenance
Compact. Demands low space allowing more floors for the same buiding high
Functioning
Quietness:
The system is free of noise and vibration
Flexibility
Each floor can rotate independently for both directions at owner’s will.
The speed of rotation is variable up to a maximum considered as comfortable
The motion can be perceived from both inner and out sides.
Smoothness
The starts and stops are quite smooth
Testing and Validation
The concept has been severely tested.
Two year of intensive tests simulating overloads, starts and stops and long period of continuous functioning.
An accelerating endurance test have simulated 10 years of intensive use with no need of components repairs.
The components are quality assured by the suppliers which are recognized international companies with high quality standards.
Maintenance
The system is highly reliable due its robustness and high quality components
Components designed to high durability, most of them for more than 30 years
Most of the components are available “from the shelf” supplied by international companies and can be easily purchased
Assistance and spare parts to be quickly available
Little preventive maintenance is required and it is very simple and inexpensive
Energy consumption
Low electric energy consumption:
Suite Vollard or a Hotel room with similar size, consumes 0,370 kWh at full speed and fully loaded, or less than 4 lamps of 100 W.
In Brazil, for example, it means: 7 cents of US Dollar per hour.
An apartment with 23 m of diameter would consume about 1,5 kWh, less than an average air dryer.
The concept building Suite Vollard is the first in the world to propose a rotational living space that con be further used as, comercial space or hotel.
- The generic solution is to revolve a metalic plataform around a concret fixed core.
- This solution is very versatil and can be adjusted to different sizes, shapes, combinations and aplications.
- For such a project the localization is utmost importance, as the main appeal is the all-around view.
In the case of multiple appartaments per floor, like hotels, where the external view is not a complete turn (360º), the view can be artificialy complemented by creation of material enviroments like gardens, aquariun, LCD screens, panels etc ...
- Besides the external view, also internally there are amazing possibilities as to positione the bedroom, living room or the bar in front of a home cinema fixed in the concreet core.
Externaly the rotating movemente can be persepted by the diferent shapes and colors of each floor.
Live in a spinning apartment is amazing.
- Searching the sun wherever it will be,
- Taking one's armchair to contemplate the preferred skyline,
- To take one's family or friends until the terrace in the summertime,
- Having supper in any place,
- Attending its preferred movie,
- and much more...
